Gorman's work has allowed him to become the recipient of various awards such as the Honor Roll of the Better Business Bureau for Excellence in Customer Service; Industry Person of the Year by his state association; an Excellence Award from Tulsa Mayor Susan Savage; a 1999/2000 Governor's Commendation award; and the Tulsa Small Business Person of the Year award given by the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce. Gorman has also ben honored to receive seven Retailer of the Year awards at the industry's national conventions as well as various local awards given by governmental and business institutions located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gorman trains his staff to offer a friendly, comfortable shopping atmosphere and ensures that each home meets and exceeds industry standards of excellence. All salespeople are PHC certified and dedicated to helping each customer find the right house for their needs. Gorman has worked on various task forces within the industry that review housing regulations, code development and enforcement.

In 2001, then secretary of the department of Housing and Urban Development (H.U.D.), Mel Martinez, named Douglas Gorman as the only retailer in the nation, and one of seven industry members, to serve on the newly created Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee. The Manufactured Housing Improvement Act was passed by congress at the close of the year 2000 and created the 21 member Consensus Committee to process and make recommendations on all proposed changes to H.U.D. building code standards and to develop model installation standards for the nation.

Gorman additionally focuses on service within the community of Tulsa, volunteering his time and support to worthy causes. He serves as a classroom instructor for Junior Achievement and on the board of directors for the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless. For over ten years, Gorman has represented his church on the board of directors of Tulsa's oldest ecumenical organization, Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries. Gorman also serves as an ecclesiastical leader within his church and has previously been a Boy Scout troup leader.

Junior Achievement.
Accepted requested to return for second year to serve as a classroom instructor for the Junior Achievement Program. Junior Achievement is dedicated to teaching elementary and high school students the benefits of America's Free Enterprise economic system.

City of Tulsa Continuum of Care Committee.
Invited by the Mayor's office to represent the business community on the committee established by the mayor to oversee the disbursement process to area non-profit organizations seeking federal grant money. The City of Tulsa received a record amount of funds for this year in grants from the federal government.

Board of Directors - Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless.
Nonprofit facility caring for Tulsa's homeless population. Produced a series of public service television spots promoting the Day Center. Serve on fund raising and public relations committees.

Community Speaking Requests:
Has served as guest speaker on behalf of the industry at numerous community functions. In the past these included The Sand Springs Planning Commission and the Sand Springs Chamber of Commerce. After the appearances in Sand Springs, the city of Sand Springs formally acknowledged the need to make provisions to permit HUD code housing within their city limits.

Invited guest speaker at Fast Track classes conducted for local business owners at nearby college campus, and for a group named Entrepreneurs of Tulsa.
