Tulsa Business Owner Confers with Oklahoma’s National Leaders
Press Release - June 17, 2005
Doug Gorman, owner of Tulsa based Home-Mart, Inc., recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with U.S. Senator James Inhofe and congressional representatives John Sullivan and Frank Lucas. Traveling on behalf of the Manufactured Housing Institute, the primary purpose of Gorman’s trip was to support pending legislation that would provide tax breaks to consumers who purchase energy efficient homes. The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) is the national trade organization representing the manufacturing and retailing sectors of the factory-built housing industry.
At his sales center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gorman, a longtime advocate of energy efficient housing, displays model homes featuring increased levels of insulation far surpassing requirements for his geographic area. “Our customers have the benefit of significantly lower fuel bills with savings that continue to carry one year after year. In fact, as energy costs rise, their savings become incrementally higher as a result of our having sold them an energy efficient home.” Gorman said.
Gorman’s decade long service as a member of the MHI Board of Directors includes a term on the board’s executive committee. He has also served as chairman of Federated States, one of MHI’s four divisions, and currently holds the position of chairman of MHI’s non-profit education arm, the Manufactured Housing Education Institute.
